Pre Schoolers "Dance it Out"
at Pleasant Ridge Library

Both dancing and reading are fun, as a group of Pre school students learned at Pleasant Ridge Library on Wednesday, November 18th . At the library’s morning Pre School Read Along, Carmen Susarret of ballet tech cincinnati facilitated a Leaping for Literacy “Dance it Out” session where youngsters used their imaginations and bodies in dance movement to portray their own interpretations of the story in The Talking Eggs. After Carmen read sections of the traditional Louisiana Creole Cinderella-esque Fairy Tale crafted into an award winning book by Robert San Souci, the children “danced out” story ideas that they liked and interpreted what was going on and recreated it using movement. Many children portrayed the Blanche role and one portrayed the old woman character. Then they skipped through the forest, scooped water from the well, fetched firewood, stirred soup, collected eggs and then skipped back home tossing the eggs as depicted in the story.
"Forty-six preschool children loved dancing and acting out The Talking Eggs story under the direction of Miss Carmen from ballet tech cincinnati," said Charlene Bandurraga-Hole, Pleasant Ridge Branch Library's children's librarian. "Acting and dancing out stories appeals to children's different learning styles and helps them demonstrate their understanding of the story through movement exploration. Skills learned in “Dance It Out” reinforce literacy, critical thinking, problem-solving and other learning abilities." Branch Manager David Dukart added, "This special preschool program was an example of the Pleasant Ridge Branch Library's proud partnerships with our local community."
The ballet tech cincinnati Leaping for Literacy Project presents an annual spring production based on beloved children’s stories, Touring Company performances in area schools, free outreach performances in area libraries and bookstores, a poster and poetry contest, and a book giveaway to promote family literacy. This year’s show, Talking Eggs, based on the Robert San Souci book of the same name, will premiere with three shows at the Aronoff Center Jarson-Kaplan Theater on Friday and Saturday, February 19-20th. Tickets are available at the Aronoff Box Office, 513.621.2787 and online at www.ballettechcincinnati.org. Special Buy Two, Get Two Free Family Fourpack pricing offers families an incentive to bring youth 12 and under to the show. NOW IS A GREAT TIME TO INVEST IN OUR COMMUNITY! Donate Now
ballet tech cincinnati is finally starting the second phase of renovations on the building. We recently kicked off the project for complete repaving of the parking lot, which should yield 50 parking spaces, a new building façade, with a new sign and upgraded exterior lighting. These improvements will significantly enhance the “sidewalk appeal” of the facility, increasing enrollment and attendance at btc sponsored events so that we can finally present a World Class image of excellence from the exterior and the interior of our facility and in all of our programming, as well. Of course, all of these plans require an investment. Please consider investing in Cincinnati, and specifically, Kennedy Heights to help spur community and economic development. We have seen a tremendous improvement in the landscape and ambience of the few blocks along Montgomery Road adjacent to our location, and feel certain that we have made a positive contribution towards the community and economic development of the community. Please make a tax-deductible contribution now to take advantage of the 2009 deduction before December 31st!
